when no meat is a good thing

there is an upside to not eating meat. what could it be, you ask? it's this: when you burn the meat pot of soup, and aren't forced to eat it for dinner with the rest of the family. ha! i had my own, mostly-unburned pot of bland, unflavorful lentil soup. but at least it didn't taste like the underside of a camp fire.

the downside to this story: when you make most of that burned soup for a family in need, and can't try it to see if it's edible or not. maybe it's a good thing i couldn't taste it, so i wouldn't feel so bad offering it to them. ken ate the soup, so it was somewhat edible. i hope. i think. well, the man can eat just about anything.

and for the veggie menu this week:
MONDAY: lentil soup
TUESDAY: chicken pot pie, minus the chicken
WEDNESDAY: shish kabobs with wild rice
THURSDAY: quiche
FRIDAY: cheese pizza
SATUDAY: ken's night...and he'll be bbq'ing and i will eat the sides, and not his juicy, yummy meat.

i will survive people. i will survive. and possibly lose some weight, regardless of all the carbs and chocolate i am inhaling left and right. and how could i possibly lose any weight? well, the food i cook is so bla and bland, with such small portion sizes i don't end up eating much for dinner. or lunch for that matter.

only 27 more days to go.

Always add in sauteed onions. My lentil soup starts with sauteed onions and celery. It really makes a difference and fills in flavor. Also, if you toast your herbs and spices just a little bit before you add them to the pot, it really brings out the flavors, too!

You are such a trooper! I am a carnivore through and through, but I admire you sticking to your resolution!! Keep it up!!!
PS - do you like tofu? It is really good and takes the place of meat and you don't feel like you are depriving yourself as much

Ithaca, NY - where we lived the last couple years has to be the Eastern Vegetarian capital of the nation. Berkely being the Western. There is a fabulous Veg restaurant that we never went to, but a friend bought us their restaurant cookbook before we left. I could bring it to you when we come to AZ in a few weeks except it's in storage. Sorry. The name of the place is the Moosewood. They have a website where you could order the book?? They tell me the food is amazing, but I wasn't able to try any out before packing up the book.

Good luck with the goals. I've thought about a lot but haven't gotten around to writing them down. Isn't that rule #1 of goal setting?? Maybe next month.
