Abe's Baptism

Miracles really, truly still happen. Yesterday, we saw one at Abe's baptism. (I wrote this yesterday).

Abe's baptism went well today even though we were so close to canceling. Friday, Abe (who never, ever gets sick) came home from school with a raging headache and a high fever. He caught this nasty virus that has been going around the area. Last weekend, Ellie got it, and was sick for three days. We were afraid Abe would be too sick to attend the baptism since this was more than a 24-hour bug. But, after lots of medicine and prayer, Abe began feeling better.

Then, it started raining ice. And although there wasn't supposed to be significant accumulation, we woke up to icy road and trees. Sure, the ice was beautiful, but not easy to drive on. Luckily, Abe's baptism wasn't until 11:00, so the roads were fine by then.

Abe felt good this morning, but his fever would come and go. An hour before the baptism, he received a priesthood blessing from his dad, promising him that he would be okay for the baptism.

It felt as though the elements were fighting against Abe being baptized today, but we were able to have a beautiful baptism. So many of our friends braved the weather and came to support Abe in this big step in his life. We felt the spirit so strong as Abe was baptized and received the Gift of the Holy Ghost. When I asked Abe later how it felt, he described it as "awesome." Later he told me that when he was baptized, the water was cold, but then he felt a warmth come over him and everything was better.

Not an hour after the baptism was over, Abe became sick again. His fever spiked and he fell asleep on the car ride home. He's upstairs resting (poor boy would rather be playing with his cousin who's visiting, I'm sure). I know that we saw a miracle today with Abe's illness. Despite this nasty virus, he was able to feel well enough for the hour of his baptism. I know that was not a coincidence.

Everyone who knows Abe knows he has a special strength and spirit in him. He is a very spiritual boy, and now that he is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has the Gift of the Holy Ghost, I know he will be unstoppable. I am grateful he made the choice to be baptized today. We love him very much and wish everyone could have been with us today.

Thank you to everyone who prayed on Abe's behalf. I know that they helped. It was nice to be on the receiving end of prayer and feel the awe-inspiring power that prayer can bring. Prayer works. God loves us, and He wants all of his children to be baptized, including Abe.

Love, Myra
