no meat and no tv makes myra something something something*

you win some, you lose some. that's how my january goals went.

first, i am glad to say that yes, i went the entire month without meat (aside from my one prescribed cheat day, but that doesn't count). it was hard a first, especially when i was eating flavorless foods, but with the help of pioneer woman i was able to find some delicious recipes (tomato soup) that sustained me through the month. side note: pioneer woman is not a vegetarian blog, but reading her meat recipes helped satisfy my cravings.

i have decided that i could live my entire life as a vegetarian. life lesson learned from my month of deprivation: i will pass up on the meats when i can. i don't need them in my life. i can go without. and i feel less blach because of it.

second, i must admit that i am a total, utter, miserable failure when it comes to not watching tv. i am addicted. there's no hiding this fact. i went two entire weeks without tv. then castle - blessed, funny castle - came on. and i cracked. and i never looked back. i've been watching tv ever since, and enjoying too, ha.

i will try this goal of no tv again (perhaps this summer when there is nothing good on to watch?), and hopefully i will break this sad, sad addiction. until then, i am SO looking forward to lost on tuesday. for all you people out there that aren't into lost: you are missing out on the greatest show. ever. and i am sad for you.

last, i did run two miles without stopping, and it taught me that when i got to the gym and only have 10-15 minutes before class starts, i can run a quick mile or so. no more walking on the treadmill for this lady. i'm stronger than that.

my goals, friends, do not end today. i have made new goals, and they scare me just as much as the last ones. they are:

1. no chocolate. oh, the horror.

2. no facebook. this is going to be cakewalk. ken doesn't think i can live without facebook, but i really can. but i have to prove to him that i am not a facebook junkie.

3. run 3 miles in 30 minutes. i want to throw up at the thought, but if i'm ever going to be a 5k runner, i need to get this one mastered. and i will. whitney, i am going to need your help with this one. that's for darned sure.

*if you understand the title of my post, you are a true fan of what show? be the first to name the show and context and i will send you a prize. it might even be meat (just kidding, it'll be something sweet and with chocolate).

Oh Liz, you know me better than to think I watch the Family Guy I hope. Yuck is right. Guess again, if you want something warm and yummy left at your doorstep!

I can't answer your question. However, I will be right beside you running (a little slower, mind you) the 3 miles. Doesn't that earn me some chocolate goodness?

I just might join you on the Facebook goal - I am disgusted at how often I go to check status updates... Sorry, don't know the show. Congrats on 2 out of 3 goals - that's pretty dang good My!

I'm with you on the eating meat more sparingly goal. I think it kind of forces you to incorporate more fruits and veggies in your diets...or carbs:/
3 miles in 30 minutes?! WOW! You are a determined lady.
Ok so the title of your post sounds like a saying from one of the simpsons episodes, but also from the movie the Shining I think. One of those phsycho thriller movies by Stephen King.

Yeah! Missy! You totally guessed it. The Simpsons, Shinin' epsiode (a Tree House of Horror) where Homer says, "No TV and no beer make Homer something something something."

I'll bring by some yummy treats later this week. And I will use my self control not to lick the bowl clean since I will include chocolate in the batter. Because chocolate makes everything better...I miss it and it's only been 3/4 of a day.

Myra, I know you love to read and I know you love Castle, so I was wondering if you've read Heat Wave. I have it on reserve at the library and I'm wondering if it's worth my time.

My, I love you! I don't understand you and your need to go off chocolate for a month (WHAT IN THE WORLD?!), but I love you, and support you nonetheless. I'm with Kimmie, you never cease to be interesting.

And Amanda, I don't even know you - but I have a deep and abiding love for all things Richard Castle, so I feel the need to tell you what I know about Heat Wave. It's pretty poorly written, it has an absolutely ridiculous storyline, the characters of Nikki Heat and What's-his-name Rook are totally over the top and over done ... and I loved it. I mean, it's not a best seller for a reason - it's not incredibly well written or thought provoking, but if you love Rick Castle (as I do), I say that you should read it. It's a fun read, if only for the dedication and the biographical info. (Ha!)

Laurie, I have a deep and abiding love for all things Nathan Fillion. So that of course includes Richard Castle. I'm sorry the novel turned didn't live up to his standards, but I can't wait to read it! Thanks for the review. (I'm hoping you've seen Dr Horrible, if not you had better hulu it IMMEDIATELY!)
